loli info
What is "lolita" fashion? Lolita fashion is a style of dress that originated in Japan in the 1970's, but did not gain great popularity until the 1990's. Lolita fashion is a very broad term, however, and consists of many many sub-types of dress, including Sweet Lolita, Wafuku Lolita, Gothic Lolita, Punk Lolita, Aristocrat, and other various forms. Though mainly worn by teen girls and women in the 20's, some young men do take on the lolita fashion sense, joining the Kodona and Dandy sub-types.
Who was the founder of lolita fashion? It is not known what person/designer started the lolita trend in the 70's, but the credit of popularizing the fashion goes to Mana of the Japanese band Malice Mizer in the mid 1990's. Who would have thought a cross-dressing man in womens' clothing would popularize girls' fashion across the globe? Many up and coming clothing designers took a clue from Mana and created their own lolita lines of clothing in Japan, but some are now selling to countries outside Japan.
Although it is mainly found in Japan, lolita fashion is growing in popularity around the world, particularly in America and Europe. Hopefully every year more people will discover lolita fashion and develope an appreciation for it.
